History of The Earl

The Earl of Leicester Hotel was established in 1886, a period marked by rapid development and growth in Parkside, South Australia.

Henry Pope, the original licensee, oversaw its operations until 1894. The hotel quickly became a local landmark, serving the community not just as a pub but as a social hub where residents could gather, relax, and exchange news.

The architectural design by English & Soward is a testament to the Victorian era, characterised by the use of bluestone—a durable and aesthetically pleasing material. The building’s two-storey structure and classic Victorian design have been preserved over the years, contributing to its historical charm.

Although the hotel has undergone extensive renovations, care has been taken to preserve its 19th-century character. Modern updates have been sensitively integrated, ensuring that the historical essence is not lost. The renovations have focused on enhancing comfort and functionality while maintaining original elements wherever possible.

The hotel remains a vibrant part of the Parkside community, celebrating its rich history while providing modern comforts and entertainment.
